The Impact of Reality
At Reality we constantly assess the value of what we do. Here are some of our findings for the 2011 activities:
-
100% of young people have learned a new skill and have a certificate for this, excluding the very few who left camp early
-
100% of young people have a certificate for “soft skills”, such as problem solving, supporting others – again, excluding the very small number who left camp early
-
60% of young people's feedback, several weeks after camp, shows that they feel more confident
-
100% of families/carers who responded, noted a positive change. 82% said they were more confident, and 63% say they are getting on better at school
-
Referring social workers/schools continue to confirm that Reality's provision is a good fit with the Child Plan, and that the biggest change is improved confidence. 97% of referrers stated that young people had a more positive attitude, and 74% that they were calmer.
-
90% of young people stated that they would like to come to further activities with Reality.
An example:
In 2011 we trained 6 young people who had themselves been referred to Reality by their social workers/school, to become junior leaders. In 2012, we are training a further 5 as well as providing higher level training for 4 from previous years. One of our junior leaders from 2011 is now spending a year volunteering at an outdoor pursuits centre.
